While reading The Giver, you wrote a short Reading Response Journal at the end of every day. Turn in those after you finish The Giver . That will be your independent grade. Your group grade is based on one of the following activities that you may choose. On a sheet of paper, rank the following activities based on preference; you will be put in groups based on your choices.

Group 1: Create Your Own Society Directions

Group 2: Debate Euthanasia. One group will argue Pro (affirmative) and one will argue Con (negative).

The debate is structured in this way:

-Affirmative position debater presents constructive debate points.
-Negative position debater cross-examines affirmative points.
-Negative position presents constructive debate points.
-Affirmative position cross-examines negative points.
-Affirmative position offers first rebuttal
-Negative position offers first rebuttal
-Affirmative position offers second rebuttal

Group 3: Physically design and build the community in The Giver .

Group 4: Create an artistic collage for everything and anything having to do with The Giver ; include the design of the community in the artwork.

Group 5: Build a lifesize cardboard cut out of one of the characters. On the back include a summary of the plot. List character traits for five characters. Use five textual examples and explain what they mean. Explain the point of view, setting, and theme.

Your projects will be graded on 1) Creativity 2) Effort 3) Specific Details and 4) Presentation. At the end of this unit each group will present their project to the class.

WebQuests: You must choose at least one of these to do while we are in the computer lab. Please follow the directions and any additional directions that I give you in the computer lab.
